Make your own signs. Part 1

Make your own signs. Part 1

This is part 1, which covers some of the basics of making a changeable sign for your own project.

This DIY advice is a free service of LetterBank Signs + Print and the MyDIYsigns.com site.

So, for changeable signs, you need letters and a track or magnetic setup.
Tracks are usually lengths of plastic that allow letters to be placed between them. Here's an example.
Magnetic signs usually only require a magnetic board (or magnetized paint) and of course, the magnetic letter sets.

For indoor signs on a wall or barricade, almost any track and letter set will work. Here are examples of inexpensive Flex track for very thin letters (flex/pvc) and acrylic (up to 0.030" thick).

For outdoor signs, the more substantial Pronto Track** and Pronto Letter Sets** are the very best option. If there is a clear cover, you need letters that will resist warping from the heat. If there is wind, you need letters that can take abuse.
**Lifetime replacement warranty included against peeling, fading, cracking.

If you're making signs for sale, you will need to check local ordinances and laws, check to see if you need a building permit or something else, so you don't waste your time and money.
